No offense, but little knowledge is shared.
THis site is a great (an probibly one of 2-3 site on the net) place for taking tech about the Jimmy.
Yet for all the posts there seems to be little *KNOWLEDGE* passed.
This is not an insult, or a slam, or to be take personally, but It would be great if a reply to a post was more than one line... for a technical question there should be a bit more than yes/no. Some questions are only yes/no type answers.. but when discussing options on a repair there is very little exchange of information or ideas.
There are some very new and very long time Jimmy owners on this board... but if you look at the amount of info there really isn't much in the way of complete discussions on getting things done.

To some extent I would have to agree on this. it would be nice if more owners would also help out with research into the CCKW,for example see my question on 270 casting numbers,not a single reply!! I was going to post a question about cab serial numbers but decided not to,if no one replies what's the point
? there is still a lot of research to be done into CCKW production but the only way this can be done is if owners will share information on their trucks.
Bill is providing CCKW owners with a great service by running the site and this forum but it takes the contribution of everyone to make it really work,G503 is a great example of how a type specific forum can work for the benefit of all owners.
This is just my feeling on the subject.

I don't think it is case of non interest, I see it as trickle down,.... it takes time.
Many off us do not have our vehicles stored "to hand" and requests for information may necessitate a special trip. It doesn't mean to say its been forgotten!
With regard pfarber's plea, "when discussing options on a repair there is very little exchange of information or ideas" What remains unanswered here?
Give it another shot, and we'll try our best, after all there is some 200 or more members !!

I know it's hard when vehicles are not stored close by,three of mine are 70+ miles away! but as I said the only way forward with research into these trucks is by everyone sharing information as GMC are not going to help us!! maybe some owners are not that interested in number crunching,but many are.
I will post a list of questions that can probably be answered by gathering information on surviving trucks.

This is a great site, in my estimation. All of my CCKW knowledge has come at the expense of busted knuckles, skinned hands and TM/s. This site has provided a lot of tips and real hard info. If nothing else, just the vast amount of photos lend some info on restoration.

200 members strong, That's not a lot compared to to a Chev or ford pickup forum, but i understand what you say and I take no offence and hope you don't take any ,but you get what you put in to something and i don't really like some forum's where some of the people think there NASA rocket scientist splitting atoms. Get all your TM,s and read them and you will feel much better .

I have been a WWII military vehicle owner for 30 years. I would like to share some of my experiences and pictures here, but I am no computer expert
I don't know how to post pictures....and when I last asked on this forum how to do that......guess what???? NO ONE REPLIED!!!!

Ok Leaselend, I'm not a computer expert either, but I'll try to help you out!
To show pictures in a post they have to be first uploaded into an account like MyPicGallery.Com, PhotoBucket.Com, FreepicHosting.Com or similar.
This is usually FREE in the short term, with a small annual subscription charge after a trial period. Google for "Picture hosting" for options.
This is your picture host, to whom you upload pictures that you wish to post on the web. When you want to show a picture in a forum post you have to go back to the picture host i.e MyPicGallery, and cut and paste the picture reference into your post. Then by magic the Internet does the rest, and your picture is sourced and place in position for you.
It really is quite straight forward, and the small annual Hosting charge is very reasonable. The catch is that ALL these Hosters entice you in FREE, then if you choose not to continue with the subscription, the picture references you've already used becomes dead, and on all the pictures you posted previously the links are cut. and they wont show.
The alternative is that you could mail them to another board member and get them to "Host" pictures for you. I'll be happy to do this for you in the short term whilst you get set up if that helps.

I have a couple of additional suggestions.
Before you pay money make sure that your host allows 3rd party references to your picture gallery and that they do not require a subscription by the third party to view the pictures.
Also make sure that you have a good virus scanner and spy-ware program as one of the ways these free sites pay their bills is to track your web use by installing spyware on your PC. A common thing nowadays. There is plenty of free spyware countermeasure software to strike back.

The main reason that i am not going to technical is that I have a lot of trouble to explaining myself in English.
I have the feeling that I need three times so much time to explain a small problem and than still wonder if I did it right ,so I do not take the effort .

Do not let any language barrier stop you. Every bit of knowledge passed along is a help to someone else.
As for all our other World Wide friends do not let the English language stop you. We need the experience and knowledge.
There is a decent free Google translator located here. While not perfect it can start the process and we can "tweak" it after.

To point of this thread. I can speak for myself but I can tell one thing, this site played a very significant part in me realizing a dream. How? Simply because I knew that if I had a question then it would be answered on here, believe it or not but that is a great support mechanism for one to have and one that shouldn't be under estimated. This site is a massive data base of information and again a great support mechanism.
The members on here ( GMC Brothers) where a great helped to me in the early days and continue to be so. They have been kind enough to send me stuff through the post and to emailed other bits of information and of course have met some great people (UK side) because of this site also just look at how many other forums this site has inspired, my site for a start!
Forums are only as good as it's members........

In response to your comments about why people don't response to questions placed on the site: Though I have had a CCKW for 7 1/2 years and driven it over 15,000 miles and done all of its maintenance myself, I ususally don't feel like I know the answers to many of the questions people ask on the web site. If you ask a question about brakes; transmissions; and /or body work, I could answer these questions. I guess that alot of owners may be in the same situation; they just may not know the answers to the questions but still are very interested.
But, through this web site, I am learning and most enjoy these CCKW questions.

First, my english is also far from the best, but what the h.....
And if there is a word I can't remember in english, or don't know how to spell I puts "quots" on it. I guess the it will be recognised as a word a bit out of the dictionarry. And those words misspelled, well you guys just have to live with it. And I recon you will ask if it is to far out.
I am here everyday, and I do not have a GMC !!! Well perhaps one day when at least 8 of my other trucks have gone..
Must say that after I started on those articles for our Norwegian magazine, I have fallen in love with these beasts. They never seems to stop amazing me. The thing I realy like to find out on the GMC's is not how to repaire the brakes or tune the engine. I like to learn their history, to find out what changes was done to them during the production Years.
That is my place. Yours is to know all abouth the brakes and engine repaires. And that is just what makes this forum so greate. Together we cover all aspects of the trucks, and that is what matters.
Small and big info will in time be put together and help us understand and know these trucks.
So I will urge everyone to put in whatever info you have. Don't bother to think it must have been here in an earlier post, or think it is not important. Let us all know!
BTW: When you attend to shows this summer, do me the favor to write down all the serialnumbers and other data you can find on any GMC truck. It will for sure help us to understand what went on in the asemblulines!! And make a lot of pictures to share with us!
