Looking for 302 engine

A DUKW friend of mine just lunched his WW2 270 engine and called me last night. He wants to put a 302 GMC in his DUKW. So if anyone knows of a decent/rebuildable one in the New England (USA) area, please post it here.

Have you found a 302 Model that will accept the Single barrel CCKW Carburetor and CCKW/DUKW linkage?

With the 302 or later 270 for that matter you use the carb that comes with that engine.

Except for the Low Cab Forward LCF engine, you just connect the existing linkage from the pedal to the bellcrank on the side of the engine. Looking at the DUKW parts book, it will connect right up. The LCF engine needs to have the bellcrank pivot installed along with the bellcrank.

Jack Tomlin in Utah has a mil 302 in his DUKW.

I get you, but part of the fun of owning a historic vehicle, is to experience the original feel of the vehicle, it ain't likely that a DUKW is going to get much exposure in the passing lane.

Actually, the DUKW is very under-powered, more so than the CCKW.
You can get the flavor like I did for about 20 years before I did my 302 installation. Now when I have to go 45 mph on the highway, I am not at the red line of the engine all the time. Makes for a longer lived engine!

I was talking to a friend yesterday whose daughter is in drivers training and I inquired about teaching hand signals. Apparently the don't anymore... Not good for us with the one little taillight in the back and no mirror on the passengers side.

I just recently (after 25 years) added a passengers sidemirror to the cargo CCKW and Annie the CCKW-Schield-Bantam crane had one from
day one after I owned it.

I have followed my wife driving the GPW and it is hard to see her hand signals.

On my lis of things to do is to addi directionals to that vehicle. It is too dangerous without them. All my other HMVs have them.

With the crazy, aggressive, impatent drivers out there, you have to worry about safety
