Hi @all,
I'm a scale model builder from germany who's pretty mich interested in the CCKW.
Right now I'm working on a CCKW with Airfield Fuel Tank.
In case you're interested in the model you might want to take a look at : http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=27471.0
I'm nearly finished with the model, there is still one part I don't really know what it was.
To show you what I'm talking about I will show you a picture of the instruction sheet :
The problem is the wire part.
Was is a flexible hose or a tube ?
And what color was it ?
I guess that it was a black hose, but I'm not sure about it and the google image search didn't find any useful results.
So, maybe you can give me a hint about that ?
Thanks you very much in advance !
Bye Dirk

Dirk
I believe the wire is meant to represent an iron pipe 1 1/2" in dia.( possibly used as a vent or bypass )
My L2 tanker does not have this feature.....But... I will try to locate some pictures of the F3 version.
These are the L2 maybe they will help

Hope this helps for now

Okay did some more research
My tanker is an F3 fuel tanker not an L2
The "fuel " tankers did not have the additional pipe exiting above the spare tire...but.....the L2 service tankers did.
From the picture in D Doyles book ( Std cat. of Military Vehicle 2nd edition)on page 114 clearly shows the "pipe" in question.
It is steel or iron and maybe as large as 2" ,it does appear ( from a B&W ) photo to be "body color"
Hope this helps
John
PS the T Berndt and Crimson books did not have any info.
