I started dismantling the cargo racks on my Ben Hur trailer and learned some interesting things. The only original rack still left the the trailer was the front rack. I say that because it was the only one that had 2.5 inch carriage bolts that were staked. This rack was assembled using steel U channels as verticals. The other 3 sides must have been assembled in the 1965 French rebuild of the trailer, the French used what looks like original NOS wood and hardware. They used their own new bolts because the bolts were shorter, washers were used, the bolts were all metric and not staked. I have added three pictures.
The first is a picture sent to me by the seller showing the condition it was in when it was sold to me. You can see the U channels on the front rack.
The second is of the French rebuild tag data the only one left on the trailer.
The third it a picture of the U channels laying nest to the original one the French used in the rebuild.
Has anyone else seen these U channels used anywhere?
