I have a pair of early (1939 & 1940) ACK352 GMC's both were left here in New Zealand by the US Marines as they moved up into the Pacific Island.
The only Formal photo I have is one in an Early Bart VanderVeen book showing the ACK352 in USMC service as a small tow truck (wrecker). I also have one photo of one as a Cargo vehicle in service with the US Army.
So What I am after is any photo's of ACK 352's in Service, Out of Service Under Restoration etc. Also any photos of other ACK series trucks would be interesting as well.
Also ACK manua (original or copie). I have the Manuals for CCKW(6x6), CCK353(1941 4x4), ACKWX353(1939/40 6x6) as well a a civilian 1939 Manual, but no ACK252 / 353 manuals.
regards

Hi Kev,
I have an original ACK-353 Maintenance Manual dated 1940,it covers trucks chassis#'s 7276 to 8775. I also have an original GMC factory shot of an ACK with the earth auger mounted on it.
Do you have any photos or info on your trucks you could post? you say they are ex USMC,are there any original markings surviving?
Cheers,
Matt.

I am having problems posting photos of the trucks, but I will keep at it. I would love to get a copy of the manual and photo Matt, everything helps in putting the peices together.
Looking into the list of GMC vehicles and contract number for the US Army the ACK352 does not show up (although I have seen a period photo of one as a cargo truck with US Army number visable but not readable on the bonnet) So I am not sure how many of the ACK352 existed apart from the data plates that I have.
The ACK353 (long Wheelbase) seems to have exited in two versions. The ACK353 with Auger used by the US Army in two contracts of about 80 vehicles (from memory as the information is at home).
The ACK353 troop carier with high sides (again from memory between 1000 and 2000 vehicles) ordered by the French Army and only partially delivered before the war took over. These trucks seem to have ended up in Germany, Uk, North Africa, Indo-China and possibly Indonesia.
Based on Matts Manual of 1500 chassis that it covers the original French contract.
Matt, is it a US Army manual or a GMC factory manual??
As far as Markings go, A friend of mine many years ago decided to have various parts sand blasted for me whilst I was away and cleaned of any possiblity of finding any marking. The second truck may have some on the doors, when I get them home I will carefully strip off the layers of paint. I had hopes of there being some on the bonnet, however whilst it was at the transport company to be shipped north someone stole the bonnet, side panels, and GMC badges so if there were markings on the bonnet they have gone forever.
Looking at the photo in Bart Vanderveens book it shows the USMC ACK352 as a small wrecker with a powered winch. The finish of the vehicle looks a very glossy dark color with the USMC emblem on the door.
My first step in the restoration of at least one truck is to find some space to work on it as I have zero room for it at home.
regards
kevin

Hi Kev,
No problem if you send me a PM with your postal address I'll send you copies as soon as I can,I did send you a PM last week, did you get it?.
The manual is a GMC factory manual and has no military data on it,eg the TM 10's were produced by GMC and have "Built for US Army" on them, this ACK manual does not.
