The GMC CCKW

Are any of you guys going to East Coast rally in Aberdeen next month? If so i need to place a order [save on shipping] , I need intake & exhaust manifold for 270, any help ?

The ex manifolds are getting harder and harder to come by.

I assume you want the WW2 270 intake manifold

All the ex manifolds will fit regardless of year up thru 1962 both mil and civy. There are some small differences that will not affect installation. One of the differences is that later manifolds have the ex flange rotated like the ones on the CCKWX so there is almost a bolt directly behind the manifold up against the block. The CCKWX had one perfectly behind the manifold.

Hello: Dr D your right it is a ww2 cckw and i am wanting to get both, my intake has been resurfaced a couple of times and the exhaust is just about burnt up . One more thing is the head on my engine has a 302 cast in the metal is this a [oddball ] or routine?

I have no idea what the 302 cast into the head is. If it was a ww2 block and pistons with a 302 head I think you would have an interference problem. The ww2 270 series engines had "turbo top pistons" and a head to match. The 50's 270 and 302 engines had flat topped pistons and a head change to match.

Here is the top of the head left side right at the carb J302 , any thoughts also do you recognize the cast name on the left it reads , 2 FEAAO ??

I will have to look at some of mine. All I have here is WW2 270's and five civy 302's in three different flavors. I have a later 270 but it is in an HMV of mine that is 23 miles away in my other barn. I will try to look at them all.

Dr. D don't make a special trip ,but Thanks!! Here is another group of cast #s ,same side, a little further towards the rear C 107412 . In the mean time Ill see if i can get a photo of the rebuild tag on the block. There is also a GMC logo stamped on the head and intake small letters .

I could be mistaken, but it appears that the name cast in the head is FERRO, not FEAAO. In a flourish of "style", they have extended the lower bar of the "F" across the whole word. There was a company called the Ferro Machine and Foundry Co.

I checked the WW2 270 I took out of my cargo CCKW and it only has the 217nnnnn part number on it back by the steam relief tube port

The 270 in my compressor truck has the Ferro logo on it,I will have to check on the part numbers though.

Well it sounds like Ive opened up a small can of worm's ,I would like to find out if it is a different head, is there any other comparison test that i can make ? Retro-roco you are right the letters AA in FEAAO does have a small lean to them and do look more like RR, i made a guess. I still would like to find a intake & exhaust .

I finally got chance to look at the markings on my cylinder head,they are..

FERRO 13 0 6107412

Between the 13 and the 0 is a raised square "pad" which looks like it is where another digit could be added in the mold,but on my head it'd been left blank. another thing is I can't find that part number in any of my GMC parts books,either the TM 10's or ORD-7.

My inlet manifold is marked GMC E315 2107649 and again I can't find the part# in the books. going by the engine number 270-53039 and the casting number on the left side 4 12 I think the block dates from early 1941,am I correct in thinking the 4 12 is April 12th??

Does anyone have any info on 270 casting numbers and markings??

Here is my intake & and exhaust manifolds center section was leaking very bad ,broke all 4 bolts but got them out and re threaded the holes,if i cant find any better I'm going to make these work . Unless it crumbles in your hand it'll still worth keeping that's what i say .
