Well it's been monkey'd with, but now we are using it for parts to complete our CCKW. (we'll have to swap engines)

Does anyone have a picture of a CCW they could post here? I'm unfamiliar and curious with what they are. Are they uncommon? Thanks!

A CCW looks just like the standard CCKW(closed cab) except there is no driven front axle, just the rear axles are powered. It has a I-beam front axle and lack of front drive shaft and wheel hubs

From your picture you can see there are no front wheel hubs sticking out. And they would obviously have a different transmision setup no need for front power

. What does your truck have for a front axle

The xfer is missing a few parts and low range is blocked out so there are no xfer shifter levers in the cab

It may not be my place to say so, but I sure hope you are carefully keeping what is left of the CCW. It is a rare vehicle and you might want to try to rebuild it to what it once looked like.

Would anyone know where the Serial # is on that CCW? We looked and couldn't find one. And we sure aren't going to scrap the CCW or anything like that, but we're trying to complete the CCKW now, and deal with the CCW after that. We believe it may have been used in the Air Corps. du to yellow paint found underneath the OD green paint. We are going to have to (or plan to) swap the engine out of this CCW to put in the CCKW (the CCKW's engine is stuck), and we were planning on cutting off the back part of the chassis about 7 inches. to put on the rear end of the CCKW, because the CCKW has had it's rear end cut off. But now that you're saying all this about the CCW, You're going to make my dad and I feel bad about doing so.
Thanks for all the info. so far!

Another quick question! So would the CCW have the same closed cab as the CCKW? I assume that a lot of the parts are similar between the two trucks. Thanks!

Are you saying it has a banjo front axle

On the serial number, look on the front of the frame on the passanger side, just above the front wheel, if it is the same place as the CCKw. if this truck had a tanker body on it then I can bet you it was Army Air Force use, that is why the flight line yellow is found on the frame. Man that would be a great truck to restore, CCW aviation fuel tanker.

I agree AD....
There is nothing more beautiful than a CCKW (or CCW) Airfield Fuel Tanker painted in flight line yellow with the Giant US Army Air Corps in Black letters on the side....Yowsah!
I would assume that something like this would be the most popular vehicle with movie potential for background shots.
One of these tankers, painted in anything other than yellow, is just an oil truck.

I was mistaken, it has two banjos in the back and a I-beam in yhe front. Today we took out the engine, and it's in really good shape (turns great). And yes the # was right above the front axle (CCW 353 21809), there is yellow paint remians all over the chassis, and it had a tanker bed on it, but we think the bed is a late thirties model (that's why I'd like info. on them) and we aren't sure if it was military. Again I have photos but can't host them. Thanks so much for the feed back I'm receiving on this topic!

This is the only CCW picture I could find on the net. It indeed has a closed cab. Only 23,500 were made. The highest CCW serial number is 26400. Almost all the CCW's were made in 1942. Many parts are indeed interchangable.

You may try PMing Chris T., rwdfresno (Ryan), or 41CCKW (Mike) for pictures of a CCW shop truck out at Eagle Field near Dos Palos, CA. I've seen the truck myself but I don't have photos. The best person the contact may be Ryan as I believe his father owns EF. Am I correct Ryan in saying Joe is your father?
Go to the member list to find their contact info or find one of their posts.

Boy Michael if that were my truck I would be looking for a closed cab parts truck to rebuild your CCW with, thats a rare find A keeper for sure

But I know it takes time and money and I hope some day you will be able to restore it, what a plus that would be to the cckw world, you would be in a class of your own

I agree with 42 CCKW, that CCW is a rarity and it should be restored. I would find another parts truck for the CCKW.
