The GMC CCKW

There was a 1945 "tipper" for sale in Belgium. Ebay #150213415429. How complicated is it to ship to USA and does anyone have a ballpark cost of shipping a cckw from Europe? Is it wise to buy sight unseen or would I be taking a major chance in dealing on a unit 3000 miles away. The pictures look very good, but one cannot rely on pictures alone. Has anyone here purchased a cckw from a private owner in Europe?

I saw those pictures too. The tipper did look really good. Although I have no idea about the costs of shipping one over here, I would make the suggestion you check with Kevin Kronlund because he's got a nice tipper for I think 10,000 and it's already in the States. He's a great guy to deal with. That's where I got my CCKW from and was very pleased about the whole deal. Also Military Vehicles magazine has a nice looking CCKW in it every so often. Buying sight unseen from overseas just makes me uncomfortable. Good luck and you'll have a blast when you do have one of these big trucks! Hammerhead

Thanks for the imput Hammerhead. I think you are right about dealing with someone here in the States.There could be a lot of hassles in shipping, and by the time you pay that expense one might be better off looking at something this side of the pond. I will say that those pictures made the juices in my mouth start to flow! flx49

Kevin's website is www.armycarsusa.com. In his ad in the MVPA March 2008 Supply Line magazine he does list a CCKW Tipper for 10,000 and it does look great. He's got about every configuration of CCKW. He also helped arrange shipping and if it was no hassle to find my small hometown it'll be no problem for you too. Go to the website and check em out. Hammerhead

I was looking at that truck on Kevin's site and I was wondering... I've noticed on a lot of trucks that people seem to paint the star a little crooked (it can be seen clearly in this pic: crooked star)

This bugs me a little, but maybe this is just me? (should I have posted this on its own for discussion?)

That start is NOT a little crooked! It is a LOT crooked!

The hood is easiest to get straight due to the screws for the prop-up mechanism.
