Hello,
My name is Rich. I went down to Peru IN. and picked up a truck a guy purchased at an auction. I am really excited about finding all that I can about it and start the restoration. This is what I think I got. A early CCKW pre july 1942(due to the GMC emblem) GMC 6x6,split axle, short wheel base 352, closed cab, 270 GMC engine, and its all there except the wrong tailgate(its too short with some diamond plate welded to each side to make up the difference). We changed the starter and a tune up, poured some gas down the carb and she purrs like a kitten.I can't figure out the vin code or what it means though? Can some one help me figure out the vin? I would really like to know everything about it.
Thanks for having me on the list! Rich (pak715@comcast.net)

The serial number is stamped on the pass side of the frame over the front axle behind the shock absorber. It can be higher or lower on the rail. Scrape it with a knife or sand it lightly.

It should say: CCKW-352 A1 nnnnnnnn where nnn is the serial number

Hey thanks, but does the serial # tell me more?

Hello doc,
Can you tell me how to decipher the five digits between cckw 352-and-A1 to find out any further information on this truck? I read a chevy site that had a fancy breakdown on where it's was made ect...VOV
Thanks, Rich

Welcome to the site and congratulations on your great find of a CCKW352. Vehicles of Victory has reproduction tail gates to fit your truck , should you desire. Just go to their web site. Great people to deal with. :D
