Collection Time
Hi Guys,
Well I'll start this off by asking what stuff other than the usual Jeeps and GMC's do we all own?
Now this is not a show off, just a genuine interest in what you have at home hidden away.
Our family has a large collection spanning from the 1940's thru to 1970's
approximately 40 vehicles in various states of repair.
No particular order so here goes off the top of my head.......
1/ 1943 Ford GPW x 3.
2/ 1942 Ford v8 sedan staff car (21A-73).
3/ 1942 Ford v8 half ton jailbar.
4/ 1942 Ford v8 2 ton.
5/ 1941 Chev Quad CGT.
6/ 1942 Valentine mk3 tank. x2
7/ 1942 MW Bedford water cart.
8/ 1970 International Mk5 6x6 dump x2.
9/ 1970 International Mk5 6x6 cargo/hiab.
10/ 1952 m52 tractor.
11/ 1943 Carrier MG LP2A (NZ Pattern) x2
12/ 1943 Chev 8-cwt, 4x4, GS (C8AX) x3.
13/ 1943 Ford 3-ton, 4x4 F60L (Machinery and Breakdown/wrecker models).
14/ 1943 QLD Bedford.
15/ 1952-60 RL Bedford's Various models incl 2x light recovery, 2x Dump, 1x Generator truck, 1x air-portable, 1x RLW winch model, early fixed sided and late drop side variants, Approx 13 all up.
16/ 1942 Federal 604 Tank Transporters X2. (Need a Rogers Trailer )
17/ 1943 Dodge WC 52.
18/ 1942 Ford G8T 4x2.
19/ 1942 GMC CCW 6x4.
20/ 1943 CCKW 353 H1.
21/ 1943 CCKW 353 B2.
22/ 1941 CCKW 352 B2.
23/ 194? Bantam T3 Trailer.
24/ 197? Sankey water purification trailer.
25/ 195? Brock house 1 Ton trailers X3.
26/ 5.5 Howitzer Feild Gun (British).
27/ remains of a 25 Pounder feild gun.
28/ 19 4? Dodge airfield Tug x2.
29/ 1943 Chev 3-Ton 4x4 8443/C60L.
These have been collected over 30+ years and we are still looking allbeit I'm starting to look at consolidating what we have, you know what I mean.
There would be at a guess about two life times of restoration work at present and we know that were only looking after some of it until the next generation of our family takes over
We are mostly engineer orientated and our collecton reflects this as a lot of the vehicles are ex RNZE vehicles (Royal NEW ZEALAND Engineer's),
Dad,myself and my younger Brother all served in the same army engineer unit (6 Field Squadron RNZE).
So thats about it, only need a couple more items to complete our collection (is it ever complete) and we are currently negotiating for these vehicles, well tell all soon.
Thanks and bye for now,
Brent Delaney.

Ford V8 Staff Car.
Hi Brent
That's quite a collection! I would love to see some pictures of your Ford Staff Car as I'm doing some research into WW2 US Staff Cars and there's not much solid info about.
My collection consists of the following...
1942 GMC CCKW 353 Compressor truck.
1942 Dodge WC-56 Command Car.
1943 Dodge WC-52 Weapons carrier.
1964 Land Rover 88" series 2A.
I don't mean to collect trucks, they seem to just follow me home....

I suddenly feel horribly inadaquate and outgunned. I do have a 1943 Mae West autographed by Mae West. ( Whew, now I feel better.)

Private collections
Brent it sounds like a trip to NZ would be worth the trouble just to see your collection. I've been collection cars most of my life and have just strted collecting military vehicles 8 years ago so my collection is rather small but diverse. I have 1 41 CCKWX lwb w/winch, 43 CCKW open cab lwb,44 Chevy 1 1/2 ton cargo, 43 white M-2-A-1 halftrack and a WC dodge badly butchered used as yard truck, but I want to find the command car body for it some day,I have other halftrack parts vehicles laying around but only plan on keeping one,I'm building a 47 Lincoln Zypher sedan lead sled and have 20 other older american cars and 4 Cushman trucksters, one was US military surplus,I'd like to get it back to it's OD glory some day,if the price of gas keeps up I might have to get it on the road so I'll have something I can afford to drive. It sure helps to have a very understanding wife.
Restored M-2-A-1 half-track, 41 CCKW SWB closed cab yard truck, working on open cab G-506 cargo truck

Hi guys,
You're more than welcome to visit New Zealand, would only be to happy too show you the local and not so local military collections
I don't own a digi camera yet so pictures are a small problem, although I do have a scanner and could send some to anyone who asks just pm me with your e-mail address and I will dig out a few of them.
I'm flat out rebuilding the front differential on the GPW as the steering was a bit loose to say the least.
Hi Matt, the Ford v8 staff car is a bit sick and won't be going anywhere in the near future (stuck on the back of my cckw) in pieces
Hi Bobc, It sounds like your collection is worthy of a visit just to meet your wife My wife tolerates me...... I mean the vehicles .

Hi rgus,
I will do my best, I believe there is only one other ford v8 (21A-73) in New Zealand at this time, we have owned ours since 1979 when we bought it the colour was red, I think dad paid about $1000 for it. I have driven it briefly in a parade but it was not long after we got it that dad decided to restore it, (fatal mistake) one of two the others was trusting a local panel beater to help with the rust repairs, he made a hell of a mess down the drivers side when he lit an incenertor right next to the car I think that was the one of reasons dad has not carried on with the restoration.
As I understand these vehicles were standard civilian model production,
that were in stock or showrooms around America Just as America declared war, the cars like alot of other vehicles became frozen stock and were put into military service. The complete car was painted od over top of all the chrome, and black out lighting was added.
Our car has seen military service at least in New Zealand, as we still have the original ownership papers with these details.
I will try and dig out any thing else I can find about this subject, as for photos, might have to wait a bit longer until I can get at the car, as I said its up on the back of my gmc and access is a bit tight around the truck,
to much nos parts blocking the way
Take care for now,
Brent Delaney.

Ok , I have to ask . Are you guys married ? Because I only have two MV's and my wife said if I even look at another MV to buy I will be sleeping with them . I don't know why she's so hostile . Just because we spent part of our 10th anniversary driving around looking for Jeep parts . That's ok , The next MV I buy will be an ambulance so I'll have a nice place to bed down at night . John

Well you can point out how when you go to Home Depot for a sheet of plywood to remodel her kitchen, it is MUCH safer and easier to throw it in the back of the deuce...
