this day in '44 the Red Ball Express was wound up. How different thing could have been without it.

Without the trucks [CCKW's], I wonder where Patton would have been to squash the Battle of the Bulge. Who knows.

We 'could' have won WW2 w/o the Jeep, but not w/o the Jimmy...!
I sometimes wonder what the war would have been like, or collecting today had Studebaker or Ford won the US Army Deuce contract.
If you work on flathead engines, like the Herc (Studebaker) or 239 cid
Ford V8, you get a GREAT appreciation for GM engine engineering.
Also the DUKW needed the GM axle. You could not build a DUKW with the Timken front axle with their knuckle seals. Rear GO to hub sealing was FAR superior though to the GM afterthought design

I love the GMC CCKW. It is an extremely well engineered truck, especially for it's time.

Studebaker US-6's were used in quite large numbers by the Eighth USAAF in England.
