MOTOR STABLES

Post by joel gopan »

Performing Motor Stables.
Has anyone considered this at a show? In the old days the Batallion Motor Sargeant would have all the drivers stand by the left front fenders of their assigned vehicles, ans over a megaphone he woulf walk the drivers thru the daily inspection starting with "Open your Hood", and instruct you by the numbers to check the coolant, check the oil,etc.. It would end with him raising a arm and instructing you by the signal of lowering his arm to blow the horn. It was comical at times. This was usually done after morning chow.

I think that would be a pretty sharp drill if all would practice and get a crowd to watch. I used to love to watch a CAF marshaller do a carrier stack with Corsair's, F6's, TBM's or a mixture thereof. . The number of hand signals is bewildering to the crowd but well known to Naval pilots. The neatest thing is when they fold their wings at the same time, then unfold at the same time. Great showmanship can make a historical presentation that won't soon be forgotten.
