WWII hero and actor dies.

Post by armydriver »

Eddie Albert, of Green Acres fame and the Longest Day died. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions at Tarawa when he helped save dozens of wounded Marines by running his boat through deadly Japanese gun fire to pick them up and take them back out to safty on the nearby ships. Others helped them , all standing in the water holding the wounded mens heads above water and helping load them on the boat. Among these men is my friend and neighbor, Bob Talbot, a corporal with the 2nd Marine Division. Standing at 6'3" he was able to hold the men until the boat could get in and pick them up. He was wounded during this daring rescue, yet continued to save more badly wounded men.

I would also like to mention the recent passing of Col. David Hackworth, he was a lesson in leadership and heroism.
