Aberdeen 2005 Report

Post by Bill_Wolf »

Hello Folks from Aberdeen MD.

Great show...well over 200 vendors. Probably a handful of people selling WW2 truck stuff ( I don't include Jeeps in this count as everybody is selling Jeep parts).

The big vendors for our stuff here is Bob Mueller from Vehicles of Victory, Rod Shaver from AZ,

Tom Wolbot had NOS Ben Hur trailer axles from hub nut to hub nut. Another Gentleman was selling Ben Hur NOS parts including Brake shoes, Brake Springs, and NOS wiring harnesses which include the BO switch which goes on the trailer. He also had NOS Oak top rails precut for the wood bed. Contact me by PM it you want his contact info.

There was scattered other dealers selling Chevy/CCKW stuff. As usual I spent too much money. :(

Found a Wood NOS GM application steering wheel NOS but 18" only. Jim Seavey has told me that these are for CMP Chevys only...even though they were labeled by the seller for CCKW. If anyone is interested let me know...it is forsale .

Now the bummer. Not a single complete CCKW or WW2 Chevy displayed. I could not believe it. Bob Mueller did have one of his customers bring by a partially restored Chevy 1.5 Dump which he is nicely restoring.....But there was not one of our baby's there.

This is kind of a vendor show anyway. The only WW2 stuff there was a lot of GPW's and MB's, a Ward Lafrance wrecker, a couple of Dodge WC's, and a beautiful Quad 50 halftrack. Hopefully on Saturday there will be more WW2 rigs.

Overall it was a good show and I got my fill of OD for at least a while..

And I just had to take the following picture for my good friend. It was a guy who specializes in selling WW2 waterbuckets :D ...I kid you not ...he had over 100 available... most in mint condition. However sales were slow.

PT Barnum was right. It sort of proves out the Lemming Theory to me. I can see a trail ride with a pair of them on the Lead Truck, and it driving off a cliff, with all the ones with buckets following him to the happy hunting ground. I bet that guy goes to the Bank first thing Monday with huge deposit.

Hey, great report. It is a shame that none of the really important stuff was there, like a CCKW. :D Jeeps have gotten like anusesses, every body has one.
The guy probably did well with all of the canvas buckets. Frankly, I like canvas goodies. I have two of the buckets, a couple duffle bags, a map case inside the cab, musette bags, and a couple of M1 helmets that go into a static display when showing my truck. A Garand in the rifle rack, a German jerry can in one of the jerry can holders. Somewhere underneath all that stuff is a 43 CCKW.
Ahhh, don't forget the story board and WWII Glen Miller music. :D

The Wood Version of the CMP wheel, has also been offered as "DUKW" steering wheel in the past, DUKW is same as CCKW, they fit just fine, work perfectly, the Horn Button parts match up, but they are nearly 2" less in OD, which requires more of a man to drive the CCKW. I forgot to bring this up to Bob beforehand. These also command Big Bucks. The CMP Chevrolet is a General Motors product, but looks uniquely British, it is ugly as Hell.

I have one of the Chevy steering wheels on my truck. However it is off of the U.S. 1 1/2 ton truck and the only replacement I could find at the time. It is three spoked and all hard rubber construction over steel. I hope to find the right wooden one some day, but it is drivable and does fine at the moment.

It was a good show for picking up Ben Hur parts (SURPRISE  )

I was able to get:
• NOS landing leg with wheel for pneumatic tire (wheel will be for sale since I'm using a metal one)
• Safety chains
• Reflectors
• Brake pads & springs
• Side rack hardware
• Firestone tires, tubes & flaps

I was also disappointed in the lack of vehicles on display. Great show if you like Jeeps & mules.

... BTW...
That guy's collection of water buckets for sale only grows. He vends at a lot of WWII reenactment events. Sorry, I'm not willing to pay $40-$60 for a bucket.
