I was hoping to get some help from you guys. I would like to mark my truck for a combat engineer unit but I don't know that much about them. I would like to mark it for one that is not widely known or popular as I get sick and tired of people all marking their vehicles for units popularized in movies.
It would be preferable to have one that landed in Normandy (it doesn't have to right on DDay).
Any suggestions for units?
Thanks,
Nick

I have marked all of my HMVs (that apply) as belonging to the 291st
Combat Engineers in honor of their service in WW2.
At the Battle of the Buldge, they stayed behind as everyone was running for the coast and blew up bridges to slow the Germans down. The German commander Pepier (sp) called them "Those Damned Engineers". Many of them paid a dear price by staying behind.
Later, they build the M2 Treadway bridge a Remagen over the Rhine river while the Germans were throwing everything they had including the ME262 and V2's at them to try to stop them.
The History Channel had their story and you can buy the video programs from them.
Last year, I finally tracked down Col Pergin (sp) who was their commander at the time and talked to him on the phone. I explained my HMV collection and my honoring them by labeling them as belonging to the 291st along with sending him a pix of all of them lined up.

None of my HMVs are labeled as HQ though.....

My grandfather was in the 1629th ECB which was in the Pacific Theater, but I know you want to keep your truck closer to it's roots in the ETO. Here is an interesting article I came aross a while back whine i was looking for info on my grandfathers unit. It does mention the 291st ECB which is unofficially credited with the first spanning of the Rhine river.
