Well, I finalized my schedule and I will be lucky enough to be in the Netherlands (in Hengelo) for the anniversary weekend of Market-Garden.

The company has allowed me to "borrow" their pool car. Saturday I plan on going to the Marshall Museum and then on Sunday I would like to view any Market-Garden events that our Dutch friends think is worthwhile.

Please get back to me as to what I should see. You guys are the ones that know better than any search engine where to be.

Many Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

The Marshall museum is re-located from Zwijndrecht to Overloon .
Its now together with the "Nationaal Oorlogs en Verzetsmuseum" in a huge new hall. :D

Most of the events that I know of are on saturday september 16th. At 10.00 there is the parachute drop by men of the 4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Parachute Regiment at Ginkel Heath (Ginkelse Heide), Ede, followed by wreath-laying at the Airborne Monument.

After that is the "Race to the bridge", for English vehicles and other vehicles with English markings only. In the city center of Ede there will also be enough to see since the weekend also marks the 100 year anniversary of the garrison of Ede (that will be closed down after that, alas). So there will be a parade and static shows of military vehicles old and (very) new, in the city center as well as in one of the barracks. The parade will be at 15.00. You can visit the three barracks in Ede that day. There also will be a militaria market in the city center. It promises to be a big event.

On sunday sept 17th there is a small static show of second world war vehicles in the Fortress museum of Naarden.

I don't know of any other events but I'll ask around.

Gentlemen,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Looks like I will switch my schedule and hit the museum on Sunday and view the other events on Saturday.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Bill

If you are going to the museum in Overloon on sunday you might also be interested in visiting the Wings of Liberation museum in Best. On sunday the MV club Club Wheels of which I am a member will be present there with a number of vehicles, since that weekend is the anniversary of the liberation of that part of the south of The Netherlands.
