how about you european boy's posting some pictures of these trucks so us boy's across the pond can start frosting at the mouth

I was at Southeastern Equipment (SECO now) in 1983 and they were working on a batch of CCKWs that were headed to El Salvador for thei army....

May still be there!

I was talking to George Hilton back in the early 90's and he was bidding on some ww2 alu water buffalos. A big co came in and bought them all along with a bunch of other stuff. The water buffalos were headed for Serbia....

When I was the military attache to the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador in El Salvador they had all kinds of WWII equipment but at that time I was most interested in the airplanes they had. There must have been 30 C-47's and C-46's at various airfields there and the Chief of Staff of the El Salvador Air Force had two F4U Corsairs he would fly from time to time. There were remnants of at least three P-51's on one airfield. You probably could have made one good flyable aircraft out of the three.
There were a lot of the 37MM U.S. WWII anti-tank guns around and other WWII ordnance. That was in 1982-84 so I don't know if the stuff is still there.

This is on the expensive side for a CCKW in Sweden. 1 USD is 7.80 SEK. I payed 15000 SEK/each for my CCKWÃ‚Â´s... They were both in quite good condition.

I think that the Norwegians were the last ones with CCKWÃ‚Â´s in service. My CCKWÃ‚Â´s were sold in Norway in 1991 or 1992. In Sweden they were taken out of service finally in 1985 but most were sold already in the 60Ã‚Â´s and 70Ã‚Â´s.

The present owners in Europe are very familiar with the value of their trucks in US Dollars, shipping is not factored in to the prices, and it gets expensive. Bottom line is, one pays for what he gets, or waits a while and pays a little more. It is very expensive for an individual to decipher all the red tape involved in shipping a truck back from Europe. It is easier to go thru a dealer or broker.

There is another alternative to European trucks. Buy one of the " well worn" CCKW's often listed on Ebay and restore the old truck. It does require a lot of blood , sweat and tears and of course money, but the self pride in bringing an old piece of history back to life is most rewarding and becomes a continious work in progress as you will always being looking for the small parts to make the truck more authentic.
