I will be going to the event and will bring my Camera.mmoore wrote:Bill, hope someone that goes to this open house gets a picture of the duce of Manny Rogers. according to Dr. Duce the military front clips started appearing in Oct. of 40, before that they must have had the civilan front clip. so this truck must have been very early, interesting, Mick
Manny is a great guy and it my hope that he will pull it outside so I can get some shots for the site.
They may be up on Sunday PM...
Bill

I have seen the truck or Manny's. It looks like an early CCKW. I believe it was Bryce Sunderlin who stated that the original production started in Jan 1941 for them, the "X's".

Dr. Duce, can you elaborate more on the X in the seral number? according to the numbers I sent you, my truck is stamped on the right frame where it should be and it says cckwx 353 7189, now I have another one, that looks exactly like it, and it says cckw 352 37051. If I remember right you told me the first truck was manufactured about Dec. of 40, and the first change in the front clip was about Oct. of 40. is this info still correct?? or did I understand it incorrectly? thank you Dr. Duce, we all appreciate your knowledge...

The CCKWX was the GMC designation with the X being for the 1st ~14,000 trucks in the 1st order as I recall. The trucks up to about 48,000 were pretty much the same except for a few details and the X was dropped. In GMC nomenclature, the X indicated a wheelbase that was not a GMC standard (special for the Army)
The 1939 and 1940 ACKWX trucks had the 39-40 cab (different though similar looking to the later CCKWs) and the 39-40 civy front fenders (again different than what would have been on the CCKWs had they used the 41-46 civy fenders)
Chevrolet started large scale military truck production in Oct 1940 as I recall. It appears that GMC may have started the CCKWXs earlier than Jan 1941 as many were lead to believe.
Hope this helps
