What a day

Post by armydriver »

Well two great events in one day has pretty much put a halt to education today. First was the annual celebration of the pagan ritual from ancient Rome, Valentines Day, so that ment students with bags of candy, mylar baloons with their current sweethearts sentiments plastered all over them and of course the obligitory pink teddy bears with big red hearts on them.
The other big event was our annual Chili cookoff between faculty and student teams. Currently one of the largest inside rodeo's in the country is going on in San Antonio, so for two weeks everyone becomes a cowboy, except me. Pointed toed boots do not treat my old feet very friendly, so good quality running shoes is standard wear for me these days in my advanced state of age.
In any case we had the really bad all vegetable chili made by our drama teacher and a couple of her students. It was the first time I had ever seen chili with corn in it and squash in it. Looked like , oh well I won't say. Then there was the very hot japaleno pepper chili with every kind of add ins, like Frito's, cheese, crackers, corn bread and then there was the desert chili with chocolate and cinnimon . Oh well indegestion goes with old age also, so come on Alka Selzer, you are my friend.

Chilli w/corn and squash is one way to do it, it will vary with the preference or training the cook had. Nothing beats an orgy at HS on St.Valentine's day tho.

AD, I will bow to your superior intellect as you are a teacher and student of history, BUT I believe Valentines Day was started in Chicago.
