The welfare of passengers carried in the Cargo Compartments of the Chevrolet 4X4, CCKW,or for that matter, any other military vehicle should be taken into consideration. The exhaust should exit via the tailpipe in the original factory configuration. There is a good chance of passengers being affected by fumes from those systems that stop at the end of the muffler. I have many miles in Army convoys and a couple of times my truck had a damaged Exhaust system, the tail pipe was missing from the muffler and the exhaust fumes were noticeable from the cab, as the fumes tended to stay beneath the back of the cab and cargo body.
