WHERE WAS YOUR TRUCK RECONDITONED ?

Post by 42cckw »

MY TRUCK WAS BUILT JANUARY 1942, IT WAS SHIPPED TO THE ETO BUT WHERE AND WHAT IT DID I DO NOT KNOW. WHAT I DO KNOW IS IT WAS RECONDITONED BY ROOTES LTD LONDON ON CONTRACT # DA-91-564-EUC-96 JOB ORDER 19092 AND COMPLETED 4-55 . THE BRITS DID A VERY GOOD JOB ON HER, AND AFTER THAT IT WAS SENT TO NORWAY, WHO I MAY ADD TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF HER. I BELIEVE SOME TIME IN THE LATE EIGHTIES IT WAS RETURNED TO HER COUNTRY OF BIRTH THE GOOD O'L US OF A . I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM MANNY ROGERS WHO HAD ADVERTISED THE TRUCK AS ONE OF THE BEST TRUCKS HE HAD EVER HAD, AND HE WAS NOT LYING. NOW IT IS MY JOB TO CARE AND PRESERVE THIS HISTORIC TRUCK FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS .

Well,
As I have been going through my truck getting all of the mechanicals up to snuff, I have noticed several dataplates. My truck was built in April of '43 and was the engine was rebuilt at Karlsfeld Ordnance Depot in Munich, ermany in 1952. Then there is a dataplate on the dash that says the truck was rebuilt in Berlin in 1955. As I replaced the spark plug wires on the truck, I noticed that the wires were dated 1978 which means the Norwegians reconditioned the truck around 1978. Then the truck was bought by Kevin Kronlund and brought back to the states in December of '04 and I bought it just last month and it arrived at my house on the first of August.

My truck has spent it's life in San Antonio, Texas and was never re-conditioned, but was abuised, misused and chopped up over the years. I rescued the old lady from a sand pit where she had been sitting in water for most of 20 years up to her axles. It was hell to get the wheels and drums off to start her reconstruction. She lives today. :D
