SGT HALF-MAST

Post by joel gopan »

SGT HALF-MAST of Army motors fame and PS Preventive Maintenance Monthly fame, was a creation of US Army Col. Bruno W. Brooks (1888-1943). His first nine years in the US Army were as an enlisted man in the Coast Artillery, Oednancw and QM Corps. He was commissioned in 1919. Prior to WWII, Col Brooks was a Captain in the Quartermaster Corps, teaching his favorite suject, Motor transportation at the quarter Motor Transport School at Ft Holibird Md. He started the Technical Service Division, which wrote, edited, illustrated, and published its own textbooks, many of which became Technical Manuals. WWII "Army Motors" was a product of his leadership, and SGT Half-Mast was born.
We still appreciate SGT Half-Mast 67 years later.

Thank you Col. Bruno W. Brooks, US Army.

I have been following SGT Half Mast's advice for 47 years, his straight talk has been priceless as it explains maintenance issues that are not evvident in the TMs. I have been passing on hundreds of his tips in my posts. SGT Half-Mast has been serving the troops for 67 years, and once read, are remembered forever.
If I could go back in time, I would enjoy serving under Col Brooks and the staff of Army Motors. When I was at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the early 60s, our Mess Hall served the staff of Ordnance Headquarters and the Chief of Ordnance. Enlisted personnel were allowed to be seated with Officers with permission after asking, "May I join you Sir?"
