Waiting 9 months for this.

Post by Colin Britton »

Well to let you all know I'm back in the States on mid tour R+R. Sure is nice to see green grass and trees that are not date palms.... No sand also.
And I'm pleased to announce even after sitting for 9 months, Lizzy my 353 CCKW fired right up!!! I didnt even need to charge the battery. I figured she would at lease need a 6 volt battery charge from sitting.... The right front tire was alittle low and started showing a few dryrot cracks in the side wall, and the right rear/rear outer axel seal started dripping. But it's minor stuff and I planned to pull off the euro/viking tires she has on and replace them with U.S. NDT anyways when I get back.
Just wish she would fit in my garage but she is too big. So she had to tough it out in the weather tarped up while I was gone untill I can build a garage for her.
And I know Bill will enjoy this as he is such a fan of the jeep... My buddies 1944 MB that I have stored while he is deployed. (I also had to move the jeep when I bought the new house) and is taking up my garage work space is stone dead. The jeep is 12 volt converted and has had charging issues since it was restored. But she turned over fine with the hand crank and I have her on a charger to see I I can get her to start.
And I know it might sound weird considering I have been driving frag 5 upgraded HMMV's for the past nine months, But it was great to drive the CCKW again!!!! And even dirty and dingy from sitting, I still got a complement when I drove her a few miles down the road to the quick stop to put some gas in the tank and stretch her legs.... Made me smile.
ATW,
Doc Britton.

Greetings Doc,

Welcome Home!

It is good to hear from you!

I am shocked...do I really give that impression about the Jeep. I am embarrassed to say that we once owned a Jeep. It was an early one with a 6 volt battery and was the most mass produced Jeep ever. It was Magsters, was pink in color, and you could ride in it. Made by Mattel... I believe it said "Barbie" on it.

Enjoy your leave.

Our thoughts and prayers are always with you and your troopers. Stay safe!
