Moved a CCKW Leroi Today...Big Fun

Post by Bill_Wolf »

I help Dr. Deuce move one of his Leroi Compressors (off truck but on modified trailer) from his storage building to his shop today.

He pulled it out with his bomb truck and then we backed the whole trailer up on my 18' 7500# car trailer.

It was fun! :D

Here are some pics.

Poor trailer is RIGHT!!!!! It has 7.00 x 16 tires!

Mr LeRoi runs like a top. I got that rig for $100 WITH a 3 ft diameter pressure blaster like they use on bridges AND a blasting hood with seperate air supply!

After I finish the K51 Chev panel it will be Kompressor time. After I bought the LeRoi, I had to go look for the truck it went on. I have that now and will be flat towing that from Raymond Nh to Pembroke NH this summer. I figured that why should I run the sheet out of the 5hp electric compressor to sandblast when I have this one....

I was surprised how well the Bomb Truck pulled the LeRoi with one flat tire and one almost flat tire up two hills! Of course, up one of the hills I had no steering as the front wheels were not making very good contact but I dared not slow down for fear of not being able to get moving again!

PS Thanks to Bill Wolf again for another 'interesting' Bill and Steve adventure!

Some people have the knack for finding the good stuff at a fair price.I wish I had that talent. It is nice to know that so many of the people on this post are saving the history of WWII. :D

LeRoi

Post by Matt »

The LeRoi is a heavy piece of kit indeed.

Steve,I said I'd get you some pictures of the tool box behind the cab with the vice and bench in it ages ago,do you still need them? I have quite a bit of info on the compressor trucks now.

Do you by chance have any of the compressor specific locker latches spare? the ones with the ring on the top.I need three for my truck and I've looked EVERYWHERE!

Did you know that Dixon who made the air hose fittings for the truck during WW2 are still in business and they still produce most of the WW2 fittings? I'm keeping my original WW2 hoses for display and making some modern lookalikes for use.

Yes, I still need pictures.

Let me look to see what holds the latches on. I have a couple bodies

I did not know that about the hose fittings!

Thanks
