Someone has contacted me about buying the following "alleged" military WWII era tractor.
Does the "W" number represent a military ID even though there is no specific military data plate on this rig? Google is no help.
Here is the info on it.
Hi Bill, no military data plates. This was a Highway mower for the State of Connecticut. It has the following Id plate on it. VAI 12335, model CD14, serial 4700589, US Reg. W-826063, Eng, 12615, date of deliv 2-16-43. If you need any more info, let me know. Paul
Any insight you could provide would be great. The price is right and after the trailer it will take some time to prime the high command for a new arrival.
Great little tractor . I do not know if it was ever military, but I do know that during WWII agriculture was a priority business and they continued to manufacture agricultural equipment that was available to farmers. My grandfather bought two new John Deere tractors during the war and a new International pick up truck from the local tractor dealer. He was on a waiting list though. I remember him being excited one morning at breakfast as his new tractors had arrived and they would be delivered that day. They also did not have fuel rationed as did others in the civilian world.

I far as I can tell that tractor is a case model VAI-14 or VAC-14 which was first introduced in 1942 and remained until 1955, I believe it is a model VAI Industrial The I may stand for Industrial but I am not sure.
Great photos, I especially like the flight line yellow one with military markings. That is a great little tractor Bill. Might go well with your crash trucks, as you know the grass had to be cut on airfields. Flight line yellow with AAF markings.
