World ar II Army Engineer Water Tankers on CCKWs - Update

Post by James G. Davis »

Some months ago I asked some questions on the subject truck. My thanks to all of you who replied. Continuing research has yielded more information. GMC records indicate 1179 LWB CCKW cabs and chassis were suppied, via Army contract, to the Butler Manufacturing Company of mid-America. Butler built the tanks and assembeled the trucks into water tankers. Water from the truck's tank (700 gallons) was delivered by a Jaeger Model 2PAF centrifugal pump powered by a single cylinder 3 horsepower Wisconsin Model AB engine. Pump output could be typically 75 GPM at 30 PSI. THe trucks came equipped with immersion heaters for the tank to keep tank water from freezing in cold climates.
At least one of these trucks survives in The Netherlands, beautifully restored. See my website :World War II Army Engineer Fire Truck Identification at: http://www.maui.net/~r11/firetruck-id.com for a picture.
The water cans on the side of the tank bed did not exist on the trucks as issued.
