Cost of a CCKW

Post by dr deuce »

When I 1st got my 1943 CCKW cargo truck, I registered it as a commercial vehicle and the town where I lived put the orignial selling price as $2050.

Where they got this number I don't know. I do know my 1938 Chevrolet Master Delux 4dr sedan listed for $852, so with a qty buy, it might have been correct at $2050.

I used an inflation calculator and it arrives at a figure of $23,236 in 2005 dollars

I believe the CCKW was closer to $4000 each. The MB was approx $800.00. The M-38A1 was $2011 in 1952, and the M-37 was approx $4035 in 1952. I am not sure, but the prices may be in the publication, ORD 1.
The books used by Municipal offices to calculate Excise tax are normaly based on commercial vehicles and have no reference to Military type vehicles. The best they can do is refer to a similar rated Civilian vehicle such as a 2 Ton truck, for example they would possible rate a CCKW based on a 1942 CC350 2 Ton 4X2 Truck. It gets interesting, as the public is sometimes at the mercy of a clueless and officious town clerk that believes that John Q Public is attempting to pull a fast one.

PS:
I have NOS Steering Gears for a 1938 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Sedan
