Split axle brake drums

According to the TM9-801 all Timken split axle brake drums are of the demountable type but mine don't appear to be demountable. There are no cap screws and the drum and hub appears to be in one piece. Has anybody come accross this type before, are they a later type?

They are the earlier non-demountable types. Both banjo and split had both types

Thanks for that Steve, you learn something every day. Strange that the TM says all splits are demountable.

Just to throw another curve ball,my 353H1 when I got all the wheels off has demoutable on the first and second axles and NONE DEE on the third one really notices the difference when stipping down to service /change the brake shoes and a real swine to get the drum off when its barnacled itself to the linings!..Regards to all Erb

That's not too bad. My front axle has demountable on the left and non-demountable on the right .

our cckw hase front and second axel demountable drums last axel hase 1 non demountable and one from a banjo axel
maby this helps with drums that come off difficult, unscrew the brakepump and try to get a screwdrive between the backplate and the drum and give the screwdrive a bang so the brakepump will go vertically so the linings are been pulled from the drum, the drum comes off with no problem,

How many of you look at the lug nuts before attempting to remove tires? They are marked "L" and "R" on the ends of the lug nuts. Left and right hand threads right?

We all know that, right? Well we have seen more than one truck that has the drums mixed from side to side and has the drums and lugs mixed or on the wrong side.

Something else to watch for on wheel drum service.

Well this can be applied to trailers as well ?? My 105 Howitzer has left and right hand threads but which side should be which !!!!!!!!!

I have decided that the side which should have the left hand wheel nuts should be the same side as the truck but with the gun in its towing position ie hitched to the truck, but at the moment it is the other way round !!!!!!!!!!

So just another twist on the whole scheme of things...
