Tail Light Brackets...FOUND!

Post by Bill_Wolf »

I finally found someone with taillight brackets for a Steel bodied Ben Hur.

Brent Mullins has the NOS available. They were $15 each. While they are 1953 replacements they look exactly like the originals.

I am now a Happy Camper. :D

They look like my originals, there may be a difference in ones made by Bantam, but most look like the NOS in the PIC.

Steel Bodied Ben Hur taillight brackets

Post by citizensoldier »

I see you found some new ones. Are they different on a wood model Ben Hur? I just wondered because my wood model does not have any. If they are the same I would like to try and buy a set like you have.

Thanks I would like to see the pictures. Is there any other major differences between the two? I purchased a Parts List and Maintenance Manual TM-10-1471 and it does not show anything about the wood model. Is there another manual or book that shows them with more detail?
Thanks again. The one manual was all I could find.

Thanks Dirk for posting the picture.

That is the bracket.

Note that there is a left and a right.

The one pictured is the left (drivers side).

I am still trying to find mine. I will post the part number when found.

1 ton Ben Hur wood model

Post by citizensoldier »

Thanks for posting the picture. I was able to find the tail light brackets, all new metal for putting the wood body together.
Now all I need is the top bow brackets but I can probably make them and the lunnette eye. Anybody know where I can find one?

Ben Hur trailer parts

Post by citizensoldier »

I found a old farmer that had a wood body trailer rotting away in a field. The only thing usable was the taillight brackets and a piece of the parking brake lever. Someone cut the lunnete bracket off of it and welded a modern hitch on. that is what I was after in the first place.
I found all new NOS metal and tail lights at the Ohio , Findlay show. I have the guys card out in the shop and will post it in the future. He said he baught a wharehouse full of stuff years ago and they were in with the stuff. He has more sets if anyone needs a set. I found a NOS front wheel assembly (rubber tire type) from ABlinn.
I purchase the lunette eye casting on ebay. Found a good set of rims in a junk yard off of a old stake truck. I bought NOS springs and a axle from Joel Copan on this site. Its been about 3 years of digging and asking but stuff is showing up.
I have been told that there may be someone with a lunnette eye in Dayton this year but I am not sure I can make it. Anybody going?

Thanks,

I now think I know who you mean on the metal parts. He was at Aberdeen, Weare, and then Gilbert. NOS stuff in the box. As I remember he also had lots of 6 volt BO rear bulbs and a ton of Ben Hur rear wiring harnesses. Unfortunately they were rusty.

There were 3 people at Gilbert last year who had used complete hitch assemblies. I did not need anything so I did not get names.

Now I am going to have to take pictures of my Ben Hur I just bought out of a field 2 weeks ago. It is a steel ben-hur but the taillight brakets are completely different. They are two piece? I have no reason to believe that they arent origonal because the B.0. taillight is still mounted to it and the famer I got it from (ww2 vet) said that he never changed anything on it. Plus the angled brakets on it are welded to the body. Any ideas? Ill get pics in a day or so so everyone can see what im talking about.

Hi Bill
The gentleman with the NOS Ben Hur parts you are referring to I believe is Roger O'Dell 937-780-6300 He is located in Ohio.
And yes he was at Gilbert again this year ,he said he does mail order as well.
Hope this helps
