Need GMC exhause manifold parts

Post by pfarber »

I need the shaft, plate and spring for the exhaust manifold heat thingy-ma-bob. You know, the one that always rusted tight. I guess its some sort of heat diverter for cold weather starting? Can look up PN's but not at home.

THanks.

And When you do find the Valve, shaft and Lever, do not forget the two stainless bushings, they are splined to stay put within the manifold. I do not Know the availability of these parts, I may have the bushings and valve, but am not sure. The bushings wear, and cause the manifold to wheeze or whistle. I advise all to put the valve in permanent "Summer" position, this reduces the hot spot caused by trapped heat. The Trapped heat will contribute to cracking the manifold either side of the outlet flange. The effect of the warm up heat to the carburetor is nill, as the manifold warms up within a minute or two anyways. I have NOS Exhaust manifolds, should you need one, and I may have a used assembly. Beware when buying a uaed Manifold assy, as funny things can be wrong. The shaft and valve may be missing (ASK AHEAD OF TIME), or the intake may be warped upward on one end, and down on the other. Back in the 80s when I was buying CCKWs from overseas, I had a couple that had a sputter to the idle, and found that the pilot rings were not installed, when I attempted to install them, I discovered why they were omitted. The intake was warped.

AFter looking at the exhaust manifold it's wrong for the CCKW. Must be for a post war 270. There was a huge counterweight on one end and a spring on the other... nothing like the TM's pics.

Please e-mail me price of NOS exhaust manifold. I'm gonna weld the holes shut and the 'damper' into a mostly closed position till I get the right manifold.

You can still put the Military kit in, I will try to locate the rest of the pieces, and give you an estimate. I would leave the exhaust manifold valve in position to block heat from going up. Will get Pics to you tomorrow. A lot happens to thes things, the manifolds require attention to the valve on the Civilian type as you have, and that usually never gets done.
