Does anyone have a picture of the 55 gallon bulk anti-freeze barrel that the US used.

Need pictures of the specific lettering and placement. I have a period barrel that I want to make into one of these.

Thanks,

Bill

I never received a response to my bulk Anti Freeze label question.

I did do up some Gasoline Drums. I "liberated" the style from the 514th.

I will get some pics on Friday.

I too have looked a long time to find anything on marking 55 Gal containers.

I recently purchased Pat Ware's book "Red Ball Express". There are several war time photo's of barrels in depots. Study indicated there doesn't seem to be too much stenciling. In one photo, I can see what looks like glued on paper labels about 5" x 5" on the ends of 55 Gallon fuel barrels.

(Pat's book has lots of great CCKW photo's, vintage and restored trucks. Interesting book and worth adding to the library.)

If they are reusable containers, would they have had a minimum of permenent stencil painted labeling? And only painted OD.

I finally found an original GI 55 Gal barrel from the 1960's for engine oil (OE 30). The stencil is faint but readable. Top and sides are both stenciled. If you want a photo or two of that later barrel for reference, let me know.
