Pioneer Tools for CCKW Rack

Pioneer Tools for CCKW Rack
According to the pics I received, my shop van has a pioneer tool rack located on the drivers side near the hood. What tools go there and what size? Any suggestions as to who sells them?

Lucky, the universal Pioneer rack carried the same tools set as the CCKW running board set up, and takes the standard Jeep fit out for Axe and Shovel, so repros should be available. The same rack was used across a wide spread of vehicles so the pick-mattock is no doubt available through a range of agents.

Axe, chopping, single bit 5lbs. Stock No 41-A1277

Mattock, pick M1, with handle. Stock No 41-M-720

Shovel, D handle. round point. Stock No 41-S-3170

No picture at this time, but I'll shoot a couple for you when I re-equip in a couple of weeks time.

Was there no requirement for a sledge hammer ? I know I have not seen one on the running boards or in the racks, just wondered.
Don't say can't as anything is possible with time and effort.

I believe the sledge hammer as only part of the pioneer tools on Armoured tracked vehicles as in Tanks and High speed artillery tractors and perhaps Wreckers .

Ahh so did they have a special rack for it or did it go on the standard Pioneer rack ?

The 10 Pound Blacksmith Sledge Part # 41-S-3726 was not part of the authorized CCKW pioneer tool set.

You have to get to a much larger specialist vehicle before the sledge hammer is authorized. The CCKW and even the 4 Ton Diamond T wrecker did not carry one. However the 10 Ton M1A1 Ward LaFrace/Kenworth wrecker has a bracket on the righthand running board for the sledge hammer.

The M26 Pacific also carried one or two of the sledge hammers. They were located outsidethe armored cab in special brackets above the left front wheel.

Sledge hammers are also part of the combat engineer pioneer squad and platoon tool kits.
