Display of OVM Kit Stuff

Post by Cat Man »

I'm thinking this is the year to drag out all the tools and kit that go with the CCKW when on display.

Does anyone have a good photo of the OVM kit ("junk on the bunk") laid out for inspection. I'm interested in an original period photo and also pictures of restored vehicle accessories displayed well with the CCKW.

I'm somewhat concerned with stuff "walking off". Any idea's on how to display small items with some security?

Thanks

On a slightly related subject:

With a closed cab, usually at an airshow where I would have personal items such as cameras etc inside, I take the outside door handles off and place one inside the cargo bed. With the windows up, you cannot get in! :)

I can lock the doors in my cargo CCKW, but people put a lot of muscle trying to open the doors even when obviosly locked, and I am afraid that they will bend something some day and I will be locked out....

having done show and tell for years,
the best method we've found is laying it on the ground.
with you standing behind it.
its a lot more dificult for someone to slip somthing in to there clothing
from a squatting position.
of course a lot depends on the size of the item.
personal nicknacks are best displayed in a footlocker with a plexiglass cover. where you tilt the tray up.
open table displays are an invatation to thieves, and should be avoided.
weapons work best zip tied to a peg board and well labled.
this would work well for a tool diplay also. zip tie all the hand wrenches on peg board. and lay out the big breaker bars and tire pumps on the canvss.

Fine black mesh netting

This stuff, with roughly 1/4 inch holes, is popular at gun shows. Doesn't interfere with seeing and touching (they ALL gotta touch!) but the item can't be lifted up and stolen.

Anther option I have used where the artefact isn't rare is to super glue it to the display... hilarious watching folks try to move a spoon in a coffee cup and its all one unit!

I'm looking forward to display my newly restored M3A4 hand utility cart with our CCKW. They were designed so that two could fit in-between the troop racks of a 2.5 ton truck's cargo bed.
