Usually anywhere to the right of the instrument cluster. The glovebox door was a common spot also.
Take a peek in the nice book "MARQUEGES ET ORGANISATION" by Emile Becker and Jean Milmister around page 192. Be careful though as there are pictures of markings on restored trucks by owners who have gotten carried away. Some tend to male a billboard out of their vehicle and overdo it with everything imagineable, especially with several lines of shipping data. The stevedors knew their jobs well and did not need to read over the truck before loading on a ship.

Best wait till Spring and warmer weather, your stencil paint will run on cold metal.

Notice that Joel is always on the money. 63 years hands on CCKW and Army Truck experience, and Uncle Sam letting him "Be all that He Can Be" at mechanic school makes for good resume.

The peanut gallery should also note that the stencil was done before Aerosol Paint Cans with the stencil brush that the motorpool had in their stencil kit. It looks like a shaving brush. If'in it don't look shitty, it aint done right.
Some Motor Sergeants had pride and would request the 1 Quart DeVilbis Spray Gun be used to spray the Gasoline Soluable White Stencil paint.
And sometimes the chain of command specifies a Max Speed Stencil mid point in the dash area Max Speed 35 MPH or whatever is a safe speed Again, 1" letters.
