V8 conversion

Post by cripesamighty3rd »

Ive just recently bought a very tatty lbw cckw hard cab, ,,, im thinking of fitting a small block 350 chevy hooked up to a 700r4 then linked to a ford heavy duty 9" axle with 323 gears,,with some half shafts that will take the dual wheel hub,,,, totaly doing away with the first rear axle drive,,, although it will still be in place,,, so the rear axle will be the only one with drive to it,,,I know the mpg will not be much better,, but the total drive ,, acceleration, ,,, top speed,, cruise speed should be outa this world,,,, please dont tell me to go buy a reo as I only like the cckw,,,,,, ive been in contact with a axel builder & its all possible,,,,,,
I know it will pee off the purists but this truck is almost toast, ,, so this will keep it on the road with good cruising rpm,,,, should sound pretty sweet as well, ,,,

The problems with what you propose:

1. V8 will have ex manifold clearance with the steering column
2. Unless you remove the xfer case the tranny will be too long
3. There will not be enough weight on just one rear axle to get traction in all normal on road driving situations. you will get stuck!

Hope this helps
