Information on part numbers for mounting and alternator part numbers for you.

Buy the kit mounting kit for the 235 engine from Jim Carter (1-800-862-1913) #HP-131. about 52 bucks. Well worht it to elimintate the need for making one up. Heavy duty, well built items.

I bought the alternator from Oreilly's Auto..
The part number is DIX A1133-1W.

NOTE*** this is a 12 volt alternator

I paid $75.99 plus a $12 dollar core charge.

In my opinion, the best way to go to eliminate all the hassles with generators, regulators and wiring for all that. This is a TRUE one wire alternator requiring a single 10 awg charging wire to the battery.

and one ground wire from the alternator to the chassis.. thats it.

Remember: The voltage regulator points in your voltage regulator in a generator are opening and closing almost as fast as the points in the distribututor....

thats another thing I WILL be replacing:

the points and condensor with a electronic ignition module from Pertronix.

Makes starting quicker, less maintenance (none actually!) and you can feel the difference (albiet a small amount) in power increase.

again, yet anotehr "upgrade" thats well worth doing.

I have placed these in most of my MV's over the years and was never sorry.

Stay tuned for part numbers and prices from Pertronix when I finally do it.

One last comment: At the time I replace the points and condensor with said electroic ignition module, I will also upgrade the old external resistor type coil to an internar resistor type to eliminate that ceramic firewall mounted resister.

yet another part eliminated from the chain of potential failure points.

I totally believe in the 12 volt conversion to these old trucks. I have a system simarily to yours except I fabricated the alternator mount. :D
