MAINTAINING YOUR CCKW/ CHEVROLET

Post by joel gopan »

The TM is the way to go, buy one and follow it, as it and the LO (Lubrication Order) have all the information spelled out for you. The US Army has been worlds largest fleet operator of Military Vehicles, and has been for 65 years, follow their advice, as it is the best you can get. There are some who will differ with this advice, and give a different take on maintenance, as they are having constant battle with their vehicle because of breakdowns, it may be due to the fact their truck is just worn out. If you just have a TM10, for your CCKW, you may want to buy the TM9-801, as it has updated to the latest specs for maintaining or adjusting the various mechanical components for your truck. The TM10 is usually pre 1943, and there were a lot of changes to maintenance as the reports from field operations came in. The LOs are updated as late as 1951 or 1952. The later, the better. Follow it from Front Bumper to Pintle Hook. The CCKW components did not change all that much, but the maintenance specs did as a result of 3 1/2 years of world wide use. The proof is in the pudding as it will result in "Turn Key" operation. I have 40+ years of that in several MVs, including over 250,000 miles of trouble free M-38A1 driving since 1963. Have never had to be towed home once, in all these years of going by the book.

Anyone have a good, clear, high quality, scan of an 8.5" by 11" of the CCKW lubrication order.

I will put it up on the site in pdf so that everyone will have access to it.
