Can anyone tell me what type of Jerry can holders were used on the running boards of the CCKW? ... as am trying to locate some for mine. Were they the same as used for the Jeep? Does anyone make reproductions?
Finally what was the difference between a fuel holding Jerrycan and a water carrying one ( if any)? My CCKW is a '43 open cab

The best reference information about Jerry Cans and their differences can be found on the G503.

I don't know that the jerry can holder on the Jeep is identical to that used on the CCKW in every respect but for all intents and purposes they are the same.
Are you aware that there is an adaptor plate goes between the holder and the running board?
The most common US fuel can used a screw in cap. The water can had an opening large enough to put your hand in and was painted white or off-white inside. It used a large cam-lock cap.

Hi David
yes I was aware of the adaptor plate - but haven't seen any for sale in a while. The jerry can holders seem to be expensive and difficult to come across as well

On a closed cab, the can is on the rear of the running board. There is a re-enforcing bracket that mounts to the frame to help the step bracket hold the can. If you don't use it, you may break the step hanger...
