Converting to 12 volts
I have acouple questions I have recently took apart a 1944 Tow truck. chevy. with a 216 in it. after ripping off the fton fenders I noticed the generator was a little bit bigger than the reg Chevy. after scraping off the oil on the data plate its says its 12 volts. I looked and the dist has a little white resistor or something inline.. my question is. whats that resistor and where to get another.. and do I have to put a resistor inline to the cab so I don;t blow my gauges and headlights out?? or do I convert everything over to 12 volts. which sounds like a pain in the ARS

Re: Converting to 12 volts
The resistor is for the coil if you keep the original 6v coil
Buy new light bulbs. You CANNOT use resistors on them

Re: Converting to 12 volts
oh ok thanks. do you know what resistor that is... I would think keeping a spare in the truck would be smart

Re: Converting to 12 volts
A 12v internal resistor would be a better bet for a spare. That way if the resistor OR the coil fails (which they do) you have a spare. If you have to use the 12v coil, eliminate the resistor
