12 Man CCKW Winch Recovery

Post by Cat Man »

I found this WWII photo at a gun show recently. CCKW 353 so I had to have it.

12 men learn to use a rope block and tackle system to "recover" a stuck truck. I suspect this is a stateside training site since the GI's are not wearing field gear or weapons.

In the original photo, If I look closely at the front of the CCKW in the photo, you can see that the truck is a winch equipped model. I'm sure the soldiers were asking the same thing, "Come on Sgt, why can't we just use the winch on the truck bumper?" "It's the US Army way soldier - now pull !"
