Question: 352 slower than 353?

I spoke to another MV Collector recently and he said the CCKW 352 (primarily used as an artillery tractor as we all know) has a different gear box compared to the CCKW 353 resulting in a slower max speed. Is that true?
I drove my friends 352 two weeks ago. Gear shifting and driving was all the same compared to my 353. I felt no difference. But my experience was, his SWB truck was very powerfull. He had to tow my Jimmy home a few kilometers after an event (I had fuel problems, as already posted in this forum). Even a steep grade was no problem for him. Thank god my GMC is equipped with a winch

There is a "high traction" gear set 6.4 ratio listed in the parts manuals
as well as the std 6.1 ratio.
I was not aware that the 352 had one type while the 353 had another type
Could this be what your friend was refering to?

Yes, he mentioned this high traction gear set. So, is this gear set an optional feature or was it standard for the CCKW 352? He could not answer this question.

I can't answer it either.
All my examples have the 6.1 ratio.
I mis-read the parts manual gear ratio ,PN 608434 as they are also 6.1 ratio

and not 6.4 ratio
According to an old sage

the high traction gear sets where replaced with the std set during various "rebuilds" due to failure rates in the "timkin" axled trucks
their service life in Banjo axled trucks did not have the same failure rate.

The std ratio for the CCKW is 6.67 X 1.

For the M211/M135 it is 6.16 X 1

The High Traction was a poor attempt at posi-traction. IHC had a much better system.
