Front Hand Crank Option

Post by Cat Man »

Someone at the 2008 MVPA convention in Portland gave me a copy of the excellent Norwegian MV Magazine "Mud and Snow" Issue Number 3. I don't know the date but Rolf did a very nice article on the CCKW 352A2 trucks.

I just noticed there was something different on the front of the non winch closed cab truck pictured on the opening page. At the lower area of the radiator it looks like some sort of geared reduction adapter for the engine hand crank?

Is this correct or what is it? Is it a post war Norwegian military modification? It sure looks interesting. I'd like to know more.

Thanks

I believe it is not original.

I have a crank and it has the bracket that hooks into the bumper as I recall.

I have cranked a 235 Chevy 6 cyl and it is not difficult to do (Assuming you remember to take it out of 1st gear... :o )

That isn't a crank, it's a heavy duty jack. It is the same style as used on the German tanks and other heavy equipment. They are rare these days.

Thanks Neil,

I was afraid I had discovered a CCKW accesory that needed to be in my collection. Thank goodness its not U.S. Or I could buy a German tank and then I'd have to have the jack?

I have to admit, the picture had me fooled.

Have the tank delivered to me and I will send you the jack no charge. :D

I must admit when I first glanced at the photo, I thought the same thing but then I saw the two ends and knew it was a jack.
