John,

That is what I stated to Bill when I sent him the picture. I think it was. "If only this was in color it would answer all the color questions for original and replacement engines".
Cause the original engine looks darker "OD green" that the replacement going in the CCKW. And all the bolt on stuff colors questions in the past would all be answered....
Too bad it's B&W but still great picture.

Given the sheen of the engine in the photograghers flash bulb I would assume it to indeed be "wet olive " which is semi-gloss.
The filter appears to be gray although I recently saw one (NOS) at Weare that was OD with all the decals in place.

I was with Dirk Leegwater in Beltring and he was selling replacement filters that were a cream colour. They had the decals and were really too pretty to put on a truck. The one in the photo could be that colour from the looks of it. Anyway we will never know for sure. Thanks for the photo Doc and Bill.
