TO BEARING FIELD EXPEDIENT

Post by joel gopan »

During WWII there were times when some parts just could not be found in theater. When new throwout bearings could not be found, used ones that were dry but reasonably tight, would be submersed in a pail of melted Wheel Bearing Grease that was heated over a fire. Quoted from David McQuarrie, my favorite Jeep mechanic at our family automobile business back 50 years ago. David was stationed in Italy, he started off the war as a Tank Deatroyer mechanic, but was also a Wrecker operator, 10 Ton Corbett, and hauled POWs in AFKW GMCs.
