This is probably one of only a couple of GMC model 4929's from 1938!

Do you think it was originally a fire truck or a later adaption by a civi agency after it was surplus-ed out..? Any stats on how many of each model (fire truck, dump body, cargo body, water truck, etc..) were made?

I think they were all cargo trucks. Probably only a few produced (less than 100 my guess)

That one is a different model. It has no front wheel drive
