Build Dates

Post by KiwiKev »

I have just found all three of the data plates that I have for my ACK352's.

The oldest Plate for Truck Number 1468 has a build date of 23/8/1939 (just had its 67th birthday). I do not know where this truck is as I only have the data plate and that was all that had been recovered from a timber yard some years ago with other non GMC truck parts.

My original ACK352 has the truck (chassis I presume) number on the data plate of 1463 (five numbers earlier) and a build date of 28/8/1939 (five days latter). Intertesteing I thought.

My latest ACK352 is number 1582 and a build date of 16/1/1940.
I had originally thought there was but a handful of these machines that the USMC had but based on the above numbers there would be at least 119, unless the manufacture for the USMC was interleaved with over contracts.

Anybody out there with pre war GMC trucks? (ACK, AFK etc or even earlier)????

I am still looking for any photos of USMC trucks from WWII or earlier to show what sort of markings they had, particularly GMC ACK352's but any photos / info I would be interested in

regards
kevin
