What Year is My CCKW?

Well my CCKW is now in my driveway. And after draining the old gas out of the tank, adding fresh gas and replacing the battery. She fired up after alittle fiddling with the fuel lines and tapping the carb to get the float unstuck.
Runs like a top, a slight leak at the exhaust manifold but purrs like a kitten. And looking at the rebuild tag on the engine she was rebuild in Norway in 1985. Breaks are all 90% and she stops, and if not careful she will lock them up with little effort.
But anyways all the data tags are painted over so all the stamped data cant be made out. But maybe someone out there can help me with what year is my truck?
The frame is stamped CCKW 353 541 774 B2 so I know it is a LWB CCKW with winch and Banjo axels. But if anyone has some data and can shed some light on what year my truck is that will be outstanding. Also what is a good method for getting paint off the data plates without wrecking the tag?

It looks like May 1945

You should have the last brake system on this truck where the hoses for the rear brakes run down the upper torque rods then jump to the axle and via metal to the wheel cylinders as opposed to the flying hoses, one for each wheel.

Congrats...we need to see pictures.

My suggestion....regardless of whether it stops well or not especially if you are going to be hauling your Airborne Reenactor buddies....is to MINIMUM change and flush the brake fluid. I would pull all the drums and check shoes and brake springs too. You would hate to have a truck full and have a stopping problem....you know how pissed those Airborne Guys can get.

Change and flush the coolant.

Replace all gear box, transfer case, and transaxle oil. Easiest way to do this. I buy it in 5 gallon pails. I also bought a $15 pressurized bug sprayer at Home Depot. Fill the sprayer with oil, pump the sucker up, unscrew the "fogging" head stick it in the fill hole and lock it on. It beats the hell out of spending big bucks for a gear oil pump and it really goes so slow that you don't have to watch it....Just check it and repump occassionally.

For Data plates I have had some success in removing non-original coat paint by soaking the plates in gasoline. If that does not work I soak them in brake fluid

Hi Doc,

I have got paint off dataplates in the past using nail polish remover,just don't leave it on the plate too long!.

And before anyone ask's,NO I don't paint my nails

Collin your truck is 1945ish....
I would say arround June 45

Ok so she's either a May, June 1945... Thanks guys for all the info, you guys all are a bank of knowledge and are a big help. And I'll give the tips for getting the paint off my data tags a shot today and will keep you posted.

I am glad you have her there. She will become a source of great pride and hard work. Enjoy her as this old warrior is counting on you to keep her historically sound and safe.
