Split front Diff BEWARE

Post by dr deuce »

During production, the ring and pinion set on the Split differential was changed. Normally this would not be a problem as you change the ring AND pinion together. However, other parts changed too:

Pinion outer bearing cone
Pinion outer bearing cone adj nut
Pinion outer bearing cone adj lock
Pinion outer bearing cone adj washer

The above parts are different because they made the front pinion shaft the same size as the rear pinion shaft. What they actually did was to make the front ring and pinion the same as the rears. Initially the front had a smaller pinion shaft and different angle on the teeth

Thanks Doc . Great info for those of us that are looking at the possibility of having to repair the differentials.
