BRAKE SHOES, ASBESTOS-NON ASBESTOS

Post by joel gopan »

I note that there are now relined CCKW brake Shoes that use non asbestos materials.
Has anyone noticed a difference. I have not had an opportunity to drive a CCKW with the new materials. I have sold non asbestos WC and M-37 Shoes, and the customers complained. I now go out of my way to stock only original Asbestos shoes for the WC and M-37, which I have plenty of, and am always looking for asbestos linings for CCKW.

I have a set of bonded ones for the K51 panel truck. I am not to that point yet as it is early in the restoration...

I put some riveted ones on Annie the crane (I assume the truck brake place used non-asbestos) and was surprised at how much better it stopped than the CCKW cargo truck!
