If you look at the pictures of the rear spring assy, you will note another set of springs like what they did on the M211/M135 rears although I don't remember there being that many leaves on the overload springs.

Do you think that maybe something like a Shield Bantum dragline was mounted on it?

No to Schield-Bantam. They uses solid beams in place of the springs like most cranes do
